USS Bonhomme Richard Fire Response
In July 2020, a fire started on the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) while undergoing maintenance at Naval Base San Diego. The ship burned for four days, was declared a total loss, and decommissioned.
After the fire, one of Epsilon Systems’ customers (COMNAVSURFLANT) stood up a Damage Control Organization (DCO). Our Mission Services team was at the forefront, delivering the staff to support the Fire Safety Assessment Program (FSAP) and perform damage control/fire drills on U.S. Navy surface vessels during maintenance periods. Our team has expertly provided assessment support and training to ship’s force over the past year. We were also asked to support management of the SURFLANT damage control warehouse. This high-visibility task has had flag-level attention and we are very proud of this effort.
