Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. Teams with Tetra Tech, Inc. on Nuclear Energy Environmental Support Contract
San Diego, CA (June 13, 2006) – Epsilon Systems Solution, Inc. is a member of the Tetra Tech, Inc. team selected by the Department of Energy to provide technical support for preparing and issuing the Environmental Impact Statement for the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) Technology Demonstration Program. The initial value of the contract is estimated at $3.3 million.
“With this award today, the department will proceed with evaluating candidate sites and technologies for GNEP advanced technology demonstrations” Assistant Secretary of Energy Dennis Spurgeon said. “These analyses are an important part of determining where the demonstration facilities will be located and one of the key ways in which the department obtains input from the public on its proposals.”
As part of President Bush's Advanced Energy Initiative, the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) seeks to develop worldwide consensus on enabling expanded use of economical, carbon-free nuclear energy to meet growing electricity demand. This will use a nuclear fuel cycle that enhances energy security, while promoting non-proliferation. It would achieve its goal by having nations with secure, advanced nuclear capabilities provide fuel services — fresh fuel and recovery of used fuel — to other nations who agree to employ nuclear energy for power generation purposes only. The closed fuel cycle model envisioned by this partnership requires development and deployment of technologies that enable recycling and consumption of long-lived radioactive waste.
Bryan Min, President & CEO of Epsilon Systems stated, “I am honored and pleased that we were one of select group of companies chosen to participate in this program. What the Bush administration is doing here is quite innovative. He is trying to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. He is pushing for a path to meet our nation’s increasing energy demands by using nuclear power, thus eliminating the issues tied to using fossil fuel. Also, instead of adding to our existing nuclear waste problem by creating more radioactive waste, this program will identify critical technologies that will allow us to recycle and consume the waste."
